BIG MAC was born in the early 1920s as a private brand for a major American department store. At the time, their workwear—including denim and heavy-duty flannel shirts—earned immense support from workers for its superior functionality and durability.
Today, BIG MAC continues to evolve by reimagining its vast historical archives with modern silhouettes and premium materials. It has become a brand that feels nostalgic to those who grew up with original vintage pieces, yet fresh and exciting to the younger generation.
Inspired by classic vintage workwear, we’ve reimagined this piece by removing the traditional lining. This thoughtful modification transforms the heavy-duty jacket into a versatile, three-season staple.

"Recreating the Real Vintage: A Timeless Work Jacket"

As the name suggests, the work jacket was originally built for the backbone of industry—factory workers, farmers, railway men, and miners.
In the early 1900s, these jackets were crafted from rugged fabrics like denim and duck canvas to withstand the harshest labor.
Over time, the raw, masculine aesthetic of workwear transitioned from the job site to become a cornerstone of modern fashion.
For this collection, BARNS OUTFITTERS has used a vintage archive as the blueprint, but with a modern twist: by removing the lining, we’ve created a versatile piece suitable for three seasons (excluding mid-summer).
Combined with authentic wash processing and durable triple-needle stitching, every detail has been meticulously crafted to honor its heritage while fitting into a contemporary wardrobe.

The generously sized armholes draw inspiration from authentic workwear silhouettes, offering a relaxed and comfortable fit. The proportions are carefully designed to provide ample room, making it easy to layer over a heavy hoodie without feeling restricted.

A hallmark of authentic workwear, the triple-needle stitching is primarily used to reinforce high-stress areas for maximum durability. Beyond its functional purpose, the prominent stitching also serves as a key design accent, highlighting the rugged, industrial character of the jacket.

A standout feature of this collaboration is the faithfully recreated 1960s brand tag prominently placed on the front-left pocket.

The jacket features a refined, cropped silhouette that is purposefully designed not to be too short.
